I bought my 2001 E/Glide used in 05' and it didn't have factory cruise. The dealer I bought it from told me the cruise kit was no longer available at that time from Harley. I wanted cruise and I looked at every avenue I could think of trying to get it. It made me mad that the bike was only 4 yrs. old and the Harley kit was already obsloete. I even went so far as to pricing it for my bike piece by piece but was shocked at the cost (aprox. $800.)...Then I found cruise mount http://www.cruisemount.com/index.html
At the time I called them, a kit for E/Glides was in the works but not yet available, so with no other apparent options I waited. To make a long story just a little longer, after several months, I called Dave at Cruisemount and offered to pay him if he would just sell me the wiring diagram to make the harness I needed myself. Well Dave is located in Kansas and as it happened he needed to be in Illinois on business. He had me buy the Harley parts I needed and I dismantled the stuff that needed to be removed and he came to my home and installed the first harness he had for the E/glide. He used my bike to measure the length of the wires and wrote everything down to help in making product harnesses. My harness is spliced in but the ones offered for sale now just plug in. Any way I have had factory cruise now for four years and not had a minutes trouble with it. I don't remember exactly what the total cost was but it was the cost of the harness + the factory kit.
Cruisemount offers cruise harnesses for all sorts of Harley models. So If you are looking for cruise that works like the one in your car check them out on the net.
