  • parts source needed

anyone have a source for a new tank that will fit a 2005 Road king Police model (efi)
source for fenders and bags would be nice too. J&P don't have a tank, and the local HD dealership says 2 to 3 week wait (for primed parts, not painted) and up to 2 month wait on painted parts.

Trying to help a buddy whos bike was wrecked get it back ont eh road quicker.
Plus the local stealership won't order the parts till after the insurance cuts the check, and insurance doesn't want to cut a check till the bike is done.

The absolute cheapest you will find is on Ebay. I've p[icked them up for many projects , and a lot of tim es can find the parts seperate for less money. A good used tank shouldn't bve more than $100 on Ebay. The dealer will be about $400

not an issue now, the insurance company insists it be agenuine HD part, and new, not a strip and repaint. so the owner ordered all the tins from a Stealership.

            get this

the dealership refused to have the sidecovers and rear fender repeainted. Said they weren't damaged in the wreck and they refused to paint them. the insurance company said "I am writing the check, and you will paint everything so everything matches"
Dealership still refused and was gonna charge $6200.00 to paint the new tank, front fender, and bags.

I am painting it all for $2000. have to sand down and paint the undamaged side covers and rear fender, but the new tank, fender and bags are being delivered pre-primed and ready to paint. I will still reprime them when I prime the old parts just to make sure everything comes out looking the same. 2 different primers can lead to 2 different finnishes once done

I understand on them wanting new parts. But, just remember , the main reason for buying used factory Harley parts, is because they are actually easier to paint sometimes. No need to strip down to metal. I can buy new aftermarket tanks, fender, and such. But, I prefer to buy something already painted, so all I have to do is to get it flat and prime. Saves a ton of money.
