  • Chrome Cleaning

OK, so here's what happened. Get to work after a half hour ride and park the bike. As I'm getting off one of those plastic bags blows over and sticks to my exhaust pipe. I get it off as fast as I can but now I got these marks on my exhaust pipe and I'm not sure what to use to clean it off without scratching the chrome.

Any ideas are appreciated......I'm sure you guys (and girls) have run into something like this happening before.

I have found that with boot marks, after the pipes are completely cool, warm the bike for about 1.5 minutes, just enough to get the pipes warm, not hot. take a new nickle, and scrape the melted debrix right off. a good condition nickle will not scratch the chrome

Reason being, is that nickel is softer than chrome.

For people that are running a black ceramic coated Thunderheader or something similar. Burning the stuff off with a propane torch has worked for me with good results.

Been there, done that! The best thing I've found to do it is like what Start said, fire or heat, I use a heat gun and cotton rag, takes it right off! Once at a show, OL wiped the hot pipes with a micro fiber rag, of coarse making a mess, cleaned it off with a new razor blade and brake cleaner! Just lightly scraped the crap off and wet with brake cleaner, came right off!

                    Just my 2 cents!

I used a nickle yesterday to remove some of my wifes boot sole from my pipes, worked like a charm

but my pipes are a little yellowed, so they won't be too shiney for HERDstock

Oven cleaner. Get the pipes good and hot. Make sure you put a piece of cardboard behind the area you are going to spray and that the wind isn't blowing. Spray just the area that has the plastic or bootmark. Use a soft, wet rag to remove the crap. Be careful because heat travels through wet rags. Make sure you wash the area well after using.
