  • Braided Cables

Had purchaced this new thing-a-miggie from Motion to lubricate my OEM cables. Worked so good I used a half can of spray the first round. New toy you know.
Now I have decided to change to braided cables, purchased and in the package it states "Do not use aerosol oilers, may discolor".

Is this true, anyone experienced this, seems as if the out shell is sealed to prevent dust etc that the lub would not penetrate and discolor.I think most dealers use the spray, that means that I would have to pst a warning if I have them service my bike.
Besides, I won't be able to use my new tool:toorglide

Oiltrash, the main word is MAY discolor cable, a cheap cable may discolor but a good stainless cable like Goodridge will not! I been using W-D 40 on my cables for years and ain't never had a problem!

Had purchaced this new thing-a-miggie from Motion ...... as you said.... neat little tool ain't it?!?

I guess they have to cover their a___. My cables are Barnett. Goodridge had the break cable. I even bought the Bel-ray spray for my new trinket. Boy, I was going to do it right. Then I read that warning. Thanks for the comment, It makes more sense that the lub would not penetrate the coating.

I think the biggest concern on discoloring the cable is that the penetrants can soak into the braids of the cables then collect dust and the dust would make the cable look like it was discolored,a quick spray of brake and parts cleaner will remove the top layers but deeper within still lurks the capability of the lubricant to soak outwards and collect more dust.
Not really a problem to Me but some people that are anal about a "Clean Machine" might find it a bit irritating.
