  • Oddest Place

What's the oddest place you've taken your Harley?

I've had mine on a ferry. That's not all that odd around here; I see it all the time. I've had it stuck on the beach. Probably not the first lughead to do that. I rode it in a monsoon - not on purpose! Damn near drowned!

I'm sure these are tame; let me have it!

On a trailer, I vowed I would never do that. But the day I was going to park it last Fall, it started to snow. I really didn't want to ride it 95 miles in conditions like that.

A favorite riding road of mine the county decided it was time to build the road up so it wouldn't be a low water crossing anymore.... The road was closed. So instead of turning around and expanding my trip by 45 more minutes, (I was heading home) I took the bike through the muddy ditch down into the gully and hill climbed back up the other side...... The whole time in my mind I just kept repeating "Don't stop, don't stop, don't stop......"

I took my old FATBOY off road!

Of course not on purpose. It was on Michigan road 119, know as the tunnel of tress. We were riding in the shade on a road that is at best 1 1/2 lanes wide. I cam e to a 90 degree corner that had been "washed" with sand. When I knew I wasn't going make it ALL THE WAY around that 90 degree turn, I gave it gas, went up the embankment around a big rock and a couple of trees and back on the road...Just like I use to do on a dirt bike. I now know why they call the FL shock covers "cowbells". They were ringing as that Fatboy fought it's way throught the dirt bike "like" move.

Back before I was married I had the proverbial farmers daughter on the back of my bike and we couldn't stay at the club house because her father would come looking for her there. I followed one of those pseudo dirt pathways on the large overland lines that just cut right thru the swath of forest and ended up somewhere I didn't even know where it was or how I would get back out...that wasn't the concern at the moment, so we felt we would be safe from her dad and his friends. Let me tell you those shovels could tote a dirt road up hill in a mud storm with the right tires. The torque is the best.

I had a yamaha that did some strange stuff. Went thru a barb wire fence and left me whirling around that tricky top 5ifth strand. A horse put me in a tree once. Course my horse saw a rattlesnake once an put us both in a hay lift. I had to bail so he concentrate on getting his feet clear , all four feet in a hay lift,, amazing. Very happy I didnt land on the snake. Least a horse wouldnt run outa gas and leave me walkin home though. Bikes spent alotta time alone out in the desert whilst I walked back for gas.

I have been on a ferry, been caught in the middle (accidentally) of a Jazz funeral in New Orleans, pulled out onto the strip in Panama City Beach and was in a group of about 20 scooters (that didn't last long) but I guess the strangest place I have been on my Harley was a Honda shop, no one would talk to me and I liked it.
