  • Way too freakin' close!

I'm lucky to be sitting here typing this!

Nearly got totally run over tonight.
I was sitting, stopped, behind a longish line of cars at a light, minding my own business when a car flashed past me to the right... no lane there, just a car jumping the curb and bouncing to a stop on the sidewalk!

Apparently the guy "hadn't seen me" behind the cars (if he'd seen them, even) and locked 'em up. Thank God for anti-lock brakes in cages! He was able to avoid hitting me while still goin' above 30 (I'd say) by jumping the curb to the right.
Like I said... his car bounced to a stop on the sidewalk.
The dude looked visibly shaken... I probably should'a got off the Sporty and checked to see if he was okay!
I didn't... I just looked at him (still breathin') and rode off (light had changed).
I gotta say he was the palest black guy I've ever seen.

    Wanna say three things:
Thank God for not punching me into the back of a Toyota pickup tonight - I'd'a been crushed totally by that one.
Thank the guy who missed me, for not just lockin' 'em up.
    And WEAR YOUR HELMETS!!!
If I hadn't been crushed, I'd have been somersaulting backwards through his windshield.

Had my helmet on, and glad I didn't need it.

    Think I'll wear it more.

    This was a close one.

Luckily, all I needed was a change of underwear.

let this be awarning to everyone, when parked at a light, leave plenty of room in front and beside you as an excape route, keep your bike in gear, and keep your eyes on your mirrors

The thing is, I always watch my mirrors under those conditions, making sure to keep the brake light active, too.
I saw this guy way back from me, looked at the back of the truck in front (blue & gold Toyota), heard brakes, saw the car jump into the air.
Scared me. The tips from the Ride Like a Pro vid no doubt were a factor in my survival... I was towards the left within my lane, giving him room to go right, and I was about 10' behind the pickup.

It all just happened so fast!

Thanx guys! I'm really glad to be here tonight.

This is what fears me the most, probably because I don't have control over any part of the situation. I'm glad you are still here to tel us this story.

Thinkin' about gettin' one of those flashy tail-light decelerometers to be seen more... Hell I already stuck a night-reflective thingy on the back of the BF... it's as big as the tail light and brighter in headlamps!
This happened in full bright daylight.
