  • Sporty cough, and dies at idle after warmed up ???

    So the sporty is dead....

Last week it started to act up at idle when warm. It wont idle right, and dies. I can restart and run it fine at the mid range, but the idle is pissed off.
I changed plugs, and it got better for a day or two, but now its back.

This tells me plugs are bad again, but in two days ???

They look great ! And the bike is strong when it runs...I'm lost......

my 05 883 coughed and spit all the damn time unless it was hot as the devils azz. in the winter i run with half choke most the time 45 degrees or below. i'd prolly start with looking at or changing the fuel filter.

Agreed....It seems like a fuel feed problem.....And while I'm cleaning the filter, I'm gonna drop the carb off, and give it a good cleaning and look over..
I hate this chit during the best riding time of the year.......

                  right around 17K

new "B" lifters, rocker shafts, rockers, Dave63 carb mods, etc.

It really has been running great all summer.....I hope this ethanol bullchit fuel didnt melt something inside......

I find it odd that we switched to that crap here about 2 months ago, and all of a sudden the bike dies out.......I've always said it...3

Drink ethanol, dont burn it.........that would be alcohol abuse in my mind....LOL !!

Wow, this is interesting G, my 883 (95) did the same thing, only part of the problems I had was a plug wire against the jug, I have a Hypercharger air cleaner, and took out baffles, so we cleaned the carb, air filter, increased the pilot jet to #46, stock is 40, main jet is 160, ran good, but still farted once in a while. I accidentally filled up with regular gas, always did premium before, and man she's runnin like a raped ape!! With a little checking in M.O.M it says to run 87 octane or up...

I did run 91 on the last tank, but with this ethanol fuel we have, it's probably at 82 or some damn thing.......I just know this fuel is to blame somehow.

I'm gonna crack it open tonight, and I'll bet 10 bucks that this fuel ate some rubber seal, or something, and it's gonna be sitting either in the petcock, or the carb.....

                            Any takers ??
