Thinking of getting an FXR or Dyna

It's been on my mind for awhile now. I Love my Sporty, and hopefully
I can still hang on to it too. I have a friend who has a 1992 FXR
with the 95 inch mod. It's completely gone through and custom
painted, drag bars, forward controls and just a Great looking bike.
He's only ridden it once this year since he normally rides his bagger,
or custom. I took it for about a 25 mile ride and I think I'm hooked.
I think it's only about 75 more pounds then the Sporty. I can hardly
tell a weight difference, but the part I like is how low it is, but still
rides excellant. I can flat foot my Sporty with my boots on, but my
right leg is right up against my oil tank and If I stay there long, it
gets pretty warm at stop lights. The FXR I can flat foot with my knees
bent.
Not sure what he wants for it yet, he hasn't decided. He's owned it for probably 10 years and had the motor done a few years ago, and he said it's only got probably less then 3000 miles on it. He's meticulous
about his bikes like I am, and spares no expense for their upkeep, and keeps them in a nice heated garage. It would also be a chance to get an older bike from a good friend knowing it's perfect as apposed to buying one from someone I don't even know and maybe taking a chance.
I would hate to get rid of my Sporty though, but even if I don't get his, I'm probably going to get an FXR or Dyna and If I get one that less then 6 years old, the Sporty will have to go. O boy, Decisions, decisions.

Sportys are a fun bike and most people get attached to them. Stepping up to an FXR or Dyna is one step closer to a touring bike. I say, if you can get it at a reasonable price....jump on it.

Thanks Boss. I've had a couple of Super Glides in the past, the last one was about 20 years ago. I probably wouldn't be looking at too much more then what I could sell the Sporty for.
I doubt if I'd need more then another 1500, He's talking now like he might even be interested in doing a trade so he'd have something other then his Bagger or custom to ride around
town on. I started looking at Street Glides, and the 2011's are really nice, and a lot different then the 10's. But I'm not ready to plunk down over 20 grand for a new one.
I guess we'll just have to see what works out.

If there is a trade that would be awesome. Probably a few change to even up the deal. At least you know where your scooter will be and it will be taken care of. You can always go out there to visit.

Yeah, we only live a couple of miles apart. If the weather stays nice tomorrow he said he'd come by for "bike nite" and he'd ride my Sporty and I could take his FXR....Sounds
like fun!

Just swap Bikes back n forth when you guys want,,
I hear of so many who sell a sporty an regret it,,
Most bagger guys get a nicer bagger an never look back..
In this economy people are takin a real Hit when they sell
a used Sporty..

I'm thinking the same thing Sonny; I want something a little bigger with a smoother ride that I'm not apprehensive about riding on the interstate when I have to.

Just turned 20,000 on my 2000 last week. I don't have any apprehension about riding anywhere, I just have the call of the Big Twin in my head. Even though I'm fairly short, about 5' 7"
I feel more comfortable on the bigger bikes. The Big Twin just seems to "lope" on the highway. The Sporty doesn't turn a lot of rpm's at 70 but the Big Twin seems to turn quite a few
less. For me it's just a matter of Want, and not need.

Yeah I can see take a hit happening. I am a bit more fortunant in having a Sport model that is fairly rare and the fact that it is in Awesome condition for a
2000. I've turned down voer 5500.00 several times, and for just about 1000 or less I can get a FXR. Now may be the time to sell or trade mine. When you
get your mind made up it's hard to change it back.

I'm sure you can get an affordable deal on a really nice used model of any type, Hell, all are available down here. I saw a nice used CrossBone a week ago... about $11K. Sweet!

I kept my '03 Dyna when we bought the E-Glide. It was paid for. Love my bagger, but a weekend run through the canyons on the Wide Glide just can't be beat.

No, I'm not buying new. I'd like the get the 1992 I mentioned. About as new as I'd get would be a 06 Dyna, anything more then that it would take too much more money besides
what I could get for mine. The 92 is really nice, and is really just as sporty as the Sporty. Probably no more then 60-70 pounds more. The 92 has a 95ci motor in it. Power wise
they feel pretty close cept for the 95 inch motor having a lot more Grunt, and it's "loping" feel on the highway at 75-85 mph. Feels like it's just putting along. This was the FXR that
my buddy built right after selling his Sporty. He liked the Sporty, but wanted something more comfortable, and more power, so he got it about as close to a Sporty as one could make
an FXR. I wouldn't have to change a thing, it's already got drag bars, forward controls, lowered, custom paint and a whole other host of upgrades......dang, I'm almost drooling just
describing it again, LOL........and oh yeah, I like that added Accessory!!!!!!

Well my buddy decided he didn't want to sell his FXR for sentimental reasons, Long story. I think I'm probably going to end up looking for a Dyna. Thanks for everyones input.
