  • Nice Saturday ride

Took my first nice ride of the year this past weekend. It's
been so hot here for the last few months that I've just been going on short rides where I can take an occasional break to stop and have a
    "cold one".
I decided to go this past weekend as apposed to this comming Holiday weekend so I could miss the traffic. I rode about 400 miles for the
day on Saturday. Left about 7am and got homeabout 4pm. Took
mostly back roads as much as possible. Took a spin around the Lake of the Ozarks. It's starting to look a little like Fall around here except for the temperatures.
The old Sporty never missed a beat. With all the leaking rocker box gasket talk lately, I was a bit concerned I might incur some leaking since
my bike is 10 years old and really not used to a lot of longer rides lately.
Made it back with no leaks, and the only oil outside the engine was what little "puking" I get out of the transmission breather tube. Got to
get that relocated per the service bulletin one of these days:)

I stopped for gas around every 90 to 100 miles and got better mileage then I figured. Usually took somewhere in the 1.7 gallon range.

Anyway just thought I'd post since I don't do so often other then to make a comment on someone elses post. It just don't get any better
then to be able to get out an ride.
    Regards Sonny

I bet it was just nice to get away from civilization and traffic! Riding/stopping at your own leisure is always a bonus!

There is nothing better than a Sportster ride on the back roads!!!!

I took a short one over the weekend to look at a friends new race car.

      Fun stuff!

Sounds like a good ride Sonny. I was able to get up early and head up to the mountains and ride for a while on the Bule Ridge Parkway. Lot of bikes out. Always good to get out and clear your head a little...
The hardest part about a Zombie Apocalypse, will be pretending I'm not excited!

Riding solo has some great benefits Sonny and it appears you have touched on that. Glad you had an enjoyable run..

Glad you had a good ride. I wish we had some good scenic riding, nothing down here but pine thickets and briar patches.

Outstanding Sonny! And don't let my gasket woes worry you. That's just me, and I'm thinkin' it has to do with the heat down here.
Got good friends helpin' me fix it, and we're gonna make a herd steak-out event outta it.
I'm lookin' forward to gettin' into my engine, truthfully - wanna see what's goin' on in there.

But always remember... just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to getcha!!

Betcha didn't use the LePera... or didja?

Thanks everyone, It was indeed a Great Ride.......

JimP.........I was lucky enough to get to ride a whole day on the Blue Ridge Parkway back in 1981 Some of the most Beautiful riding I've ever had.

Monk.....No, I didn't take the LePera, I used the Badlander, though I think the LePera would have been ok. I never had her abouve about 3500 (80)mph
so I didn't have any vibration to deal with. Did take the Bikers Friend though, Dang I Love that bag. I carried my 1/2 helmet in it along with some other things.
Best money I ever spent on Motorcycle related items.
                      Regards Sonny

                        Yeah, love my BF, too.
Enough so I had to come up with a way to mount it that didn't interfere with the solo "look".
Need to keep it on there.

                        I couldn't live without it.
Nearly everyday I'm out an' think "Need to pickup some Coke, or milk, or bread, or whatever..." but without the BF, gotta go home and borrow a cage.
