  • Fellow riders lost

We lost 5 fellow riders on sunday evening in a horrible accident in Manheim, PA. This has been all over the news as the authorities have no idea how the accident happened. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the lost riders and to the young lady who is fighting for her life! http://www.wgal.com/slideshow/news/24065933/detail.html

Thanks for posting that, now I'm thinking no more bike for the wife and daughter. I would never be able to live with myself if something happend to them and I lived. Gonna have to rethink my position on riding myself.

I'm am truly sorry to hear about this tragic loss of life. From the photos, I can't figure out what happened. Did the taxi pull out in front of them? It looks like the taxi was hit on both sides. It does not look like the riders rear-ended the taxi. I didn't see a side street or intersection in the photos either.

Tragic and very sad! Condolence to the families. There are comments under the article itself and I began to read them. Several about not riding staggered formation to no helmet and yes helmet and that the driver of the van had a heart-attack. Still a lot of speculations with this incident.

Yea they are not 100% sure what happened as of yet. The van was hit once on the front and once on each side of the van. From what i've heard from some people there is a side road that comes out to rt. 72 at a 45 deg. angle that the van was on heading towards 72, the bikes were headed the same direction(south) that the van was headed and they met when the van didn't stop or even slow down for the stop sign on the 45 deg. road. And what they are saying is the van driver either had a stroke or heart attack as frank mentioned. Nothing official yet, this is just speculation, they have shut down rt. 72 about 2-3 times to try and reconstruct the accident so hopefully it'll soon make some sense.

Dan i can see how an accident like this can make someone question themselves and loved ones riding. I can't stop thinkin about the familes and what they are going through but i look at it as the good lord needed these 5 people for something bigger!! Its unfortunate but they died doing what they loved to do, riding, not just riding but riding together as loving couples and good friends!! So if ya love riding, stay sharp, ride safe, and keep doing what ya love to do!!
