  • Paint/powdercoat/scratches

I was reading socol's thread about being keyed and it had mention of polishing compounds. I am ignorant to anything but good old fashioned rubbing compound but I think that's way more than I need, at least from my memory of using it in the past on car paint.

I was planning to ask you guys anyway so now seems like a good time for maybe a step by step and product info for buffing out minor scratches.

Mrs B unknowingly let the cord from her headset rub on her tank (2009 Sporty) one of the days we were in Alabama and there are very fine scratches along a 4 inch long by 2 inch wide area. You can't "feel" them so it's only in the topcoat? assuming there is a top coat now a days?

What products to use? Anything specific because it's an '09? Two or three different products to work it back to the point of wax? Power buffing or hand-job <---LOL Lightly do the entire tank after the scratches are gone to blend? I don't like that question cause I hope there is something to buff it out without changing the look.

    Help!!

Good thread. I took the sideplates off my bike to find that sand had been trapped between the fender and the plates. Now that the sideplates are off I need to find something to fill in or help hide the divots left behind.

There is a thread that is around...Tried searching it but Mrs. Boss is on her way and I need to get ready. It was about this subject and I think CLL375 and Dave63 and some others chimed in. Very good information and it took place maybe within 2 or 3 weeks.
