I normally fill up when I get to around 150 miles on a tank but I'd been stuck in some heavy traffic the last few days so while riding home yesterday I was almost home and right at 150 miles when the bike died. I pulled over and quickly turned the petcock to reserve and fired it back up. Went a few blocks to a gas station and put a little over 4 gallons in and remembered to turn the petcock back to normal position (my worry when it died was that I had the petcock wrong but I was good) and everything is good.

Sorry that you EFI guys don't have a reserve, must suck when you calculate wrong....

I've never hit reserve on my bike....not that I don;t ride enough, but I ran out of gas ONCE, on a 92* day and had to push it uphill 2.5 miles. Never again.....

I'm an EFI guy and am still trying to figure my gas out. I tested it last week and rode well past the little gas pump light on and my "remaining miles left" was at 10 miles and when it got to 9 it just read "LO" in the display. I figured that was low enough and stopped and got gas. It still only took 5 gallons. The 09 RK has a 6 gallon tank on it. I guess that is HD's way of helping you not run out but I still had a gallon of gas in there which on my bike was another 35 miles.

Ridin around town I just let the little idiot light come on,, cause the tank lift I think it comes on way early. On the highway finally after a two year dry spell. We usually break stopped every hour or 75 miles and every other stop was a fillup only once did I put over four gallons in my five gallon tank. usually about 3.5. Gotta wonder how useful a six gallon tank is less I was alone ironbuttin.

Wish I had reserve, hit 150 miles the other day and put 4.3 gallons in it, which is cutting it really close...kinda forgot I was at 125 miles when I got to work in the morning...

Ran out of gas twice on my old bike, before I realized my petcock, or one of the feed tubes were clogged.....never got around to fixing it, just never let it get close again...
It's not "derailed", as long as the last post relates to the post above it...it's just on a different rail, heading into a more interesting direction

A six gallon don't do much good when you ride with a bunch of Sportsters that have to stop every 100 or so! lol

Yep my friends are stopping every 100 or less because of their butts more than lack of gas I guess. :)

sounds like my trip home from Paintsville, after the first 2 stops (approx 90 miles each) it ended up being closer to every 60 miles +/-

Dan's sporty was running pretty long on a tank. (3.3 gal I believe) We rode 130 miles and then started looking for a station.

ridin both weekly,, Have my word that a bump that you barely feel on a touring will chatter the teeth and crush the tailbone of an XLerator. And the stock seat is more like rdin on a 2/4
