  • Question about Tuners!!!

Howdy Herd!! I have a question as I'm not all-up on Tuners! HD will be installing a tuner onto the ECM on my 2010 WG Thursday and I would like to know what I should expect in terms of HP or torque gains if any at all!! Thanks in advance for everyone's input!! B.

I guess its gonna depend on what they are installing. I don't know much about them but have read that different results from different tuners.

that's what has me wonderin!! They told me they'd do an upload to the ECM that would tune the fuel delivery to each cylinder and would result in an increase with HP and torque! They didn't recommend a dyno test run til at least 2000 miles!!

I would cancell your appointment and find out from someone that knows tuners what would be best as far as performance goes then when it gets to where it can be dyno'd then have it installed. I knpow tuners are always a topic that gets beat to death but it would suck to get something that might not be the best for your bike then have to get another later. And the dealer may not be the best place to get that answer. Just my thoughts on this so don't beat me up too bad. lol

They already put my Screamin Eagle exhaust on and are doin the free flow air filter to finish the stage I then they'll load the tuner! Sounds like there are different tuners??

many different ones, usually the dealer wants to install the se tuner...they are good, thats what I have on the V-Rod.....guess its different with different bikes, cause once I put on the Thunderheader as a pipe ( 2 into 1 ) I could barely ride the bike to the dealer for the rest, had to be very careful and the bike rode like crap.....

Just ask them straight up what kind of gains you can expect and what it is you want. If they know what they are doing they should be able to tell you.

screamin eagle exhaust is already on and they're installing the screamin eagle air cleaner to finish the stage I update!! The Master Mechanic at HD said it'd be easy to "dial" in the tuner to the ECM as we stayed with all HD components! He told me a possible gain of 8-10 HP and 12-15 lbs of torque!! Jus wonderin if this sounds correct or am I not understanding what they're doing or gonna do!!!!

Did they quote a price for the tuner?

Do you understand what it is you wanna do and not just understanding what they are gonna do?

Do you know if you want better low end, mid range, or top end performance? Where is the bike lacking that you want it to be better, is what you need to know first.

This is a good question Brian, what are they charging you for this???

I would find out exactly what they are doing before they do it. You might end up with something you don't want? They can't tune anything without a dyno run all they can do is download a canned map for whatever tuner they are putting on there which will get you in the ball park but is not really tuning the engine. Get ahold of Dave63 and see what he thinks before you do anything !! Just trying to help you out Buddy :D

They told me a tuner would be $200!! OK, am I gettin screwed??? I have trusted these guys cause they've treated me right on the bike and all accessories and one is a close friend! I'm not looking to make the WG a racer but rather a very efficient running bike with crisp response in all gears!! What do you guys think........should I cancel out on the tuner?? All I have to do is say I don't want it and it won't be installed!! I trust the Herd as close family and want y'all's input and recomm!!!!!
