  • Opinions on a rebuild or a crate engine

Either my bike is getting slower, or my friends bikes are getting faster. I think it's time for a upgrade, but I'm having a hard time making up my mind. 2 of my friends who I ride with installed Ultima engines over the Winter, and couldn't be happier. I really want to stick with S&S, but after I add up all of the parts to make a 96", I could buy a 100+ inch Ultima. Then you start to add up the difference after I sell my complete engine, and the crate engine just makes more sense. This is a big investment, and I just don't want to wish I made the other choice when everything is said and done. Any advice?

100" crate motor will have a warranty and sooner in the saddle
building a 96" will give you bragging rights but be longer on the lift

i would prolly go for the crate moter too

No Revtech, the stories I hear are not good. Almost scary.

Ahhh, I understand. Just double the reason to go broke. LOL. I did look into that though, but even worn out cores still go for big money around here.

I keep telling her that, but she has cought on. She just spends what I spend, so whatever the engine build is, I have to think double. Or just hide all of the receipts.

i just couldn't live like that, glad you can make it work bro. it WAS pretty obvious about the cash i spent on crazy spree's. now that im unemployed i'll have to reign in the spending for a bit.(unless i sell the house while she's at work one day)

I couldn't do it either, she watches the money like a hawk. I like to joke about it though. She reads through these posts, so I have to make it sound somewhat good. I'm just trying to make a game plan for the winter, I really don't want any down time from the bike.
I hear what you are saying about cash. I'm probably going to have to sell something else to do this, but it's worth it. Money just doesn't seem as easy to come by as it use to be.

It's very hard to beat an S&S engine. As in all things in life, you get what you pay for.

I once had an S&S 93" shovel. Awesome, awesome motor.
