Shortly after i got my sporty, I did a series of quick oil changes on the bike. ( it was used ) and I started to get fair amounts of shavings myself.
They were brass shavings, and I was nervous that i may have a cam bearing or some other brass bushing going out.
After many consults with Dave63 and others, I tore down the cam chest on the bike to inspect the bushings in the motor..I found "nothing" that indicated a failed component in the motor, and changed the bushings in the cam chest. I also put in new "B" lifters, and replaced rocker arms and rocker shafts while the motor was down..
I have great oil pressure, and never did find the cause of the brass shavings in the motor.
I've put on roughly 10k miles since then, and the motor has been metal free since..
The possibility exists than machine shavings were left inside the motor from the factory, and your now seeing them manifest in the oil changes as the motor breaks in..Might I suggest you look into a lifetime oil filter for the motor, perhaps in J&P cycles catalog, or from "SCOTTS" performance products..
I own one of these filters myself, and swear by the increase in filtering capacity, and how much cleaner the motor is inside.
It would certainly help to catch any of those "questionable" flecks of material you are seeing...U.S. Army "Retired"

Thanks for the info gruss, these are mettalic shavings that I can see and feel, Harley service said for me to wait till 1000 miles and they will change the fluids and it will be fine. Till then this is gonna worry me, but like I said I'm glad there is a warranty!Proud Herd Member #122

Of all of the engines I build for for boats, cars and bikes, there is always some metal in the oil the first oil change. Some are better than others, but it always concerns the people if they are not expecting it.Justin, HERD member 00016

I did my first 1000 mile fluid change today at 971 miles and found very little metal. The crankcase plug and primary plug had a little bead of metallic paste on the magnet and the tranny had virtually nothing. I also put on a K&P Engineering filter that I got from TooBadd back in Feb.

only because I'm not sure exacly how an external magnet on the filter might impede oil flow internally. Probably not at all, but...
