  • Engine/Oil light Throttle Question

I was on the freeway riding about 72 mph when my oil and engine light turned on. I tried to hurry to pull over at a safe spot but the throttle wouldn't accelerate pass 2000 rpm as in LIMP mode (limited throttle response).

With flashers on, I got to a safe spot, turned everything off for 20 seconds and all seemed well. Got back on the road and it did it again. Luckily I was by an exit. I did the same process one more time and then I started looking for a gas station.

Oil was low so I bought synthetic and added to the full mark. I figured all was OK but after a few minutes, it kept doing the same thing. This time, only the engine light would turn on and.... I couldn't accelerate pass 2000 rpm. Each time this happened, I had to stop and reset everything for 20 seconds and inch my way home.

I haven't pulled codes yet but wondering if anyone else has experienced this before.

I get the following code: P55Ptb or PSSPtb then press and hold to get No RSP.

Google has a couple explanations for 2 different scenario. Doesn't seem right.

      I got nothing, Boss...

But I'm rooting for a simple (electrical) malfunction rather than a mechanical one.

nah, yer going the wrong direction. He needs to go back to something with an evo egine.
I know a lot of folks hated that since it took the place of the shovel, but I swear, the second generation evo was the most reliable and most bullet proof motor ever built by Harley

Mason could have helped but it's not even on this list that he posted.

Thanks Bob! I think I narrowed it down to the above codes. I will know when I take it to the shop tomorrow or Wednesday.

Frank I have two things for you to try. First remove the master fuse, wait 10 min and replace. Then you have a connector near your air inlet, it will the the throttle position sensor. Disconnect and clean the connectors. If that does not correct issue I would take a good look at the O2 sensors. Codes kinda look like your system went open loop.

Thank you. It did go haywire for a moment and probably confused everything. I will do that today and go for a spin.
