  • Problem with 07 Nightster

Ok, I just started my bike and I heard a big pop out of the TB. What the hell just happened?! It seems to be idling fine but I didn't want to trake it for a ride till I got some input.

Lean pop on start up ?
Those EFI bikes will do it too.....heck mine does it once a week at least.....I just ride the damn thing....
If you have no running issues, run out the fuel, and try it again...it could very well be fuel quality.....g

Thanks gruss. I just took it for a ride and no issues. This is the first time something like this has happened to me so it kinda got me worried.

Yeah, cheap gas can be problematic... I use Marathon 93 octane almost exclusively these days. It contains no middle-eastern product, and no ethanol at the moment (if the Marathon station has an "STP" sticker on its big sign). I seem to get about 10% better mileage with it over anything else.
            And the bike loves it.

good call on the high octane fuel, and perish the thought if ethanol fuels are used...they are just plain bad news for run-ability....IMHO

I use Exxon. There is a Sunoco station nearby, would that be better?

I have a related question (sorry for buttin' in to your thread Chris07). What are the ramifications of using lower octane fuel occassionally? I normally run 93, but sometimes it is unavailable. I've filled up with 87 twice and 89 once over teh last three years. Frankly, I couldn't tell any difference, other than the considerable cost savings .

Well, generally when the octane rating is low, it can cause detonation, or pre-detonation of the fuel. It will "ping" and eventually damage the piston chambers and valves....

Haven't heard the pinging, but I seldom get on it hard. I'll stick to the 93! Thanks Gruss.
