  • Mt. Pleasant MI

Left Friday morning(myself and wife, friends Frank and Maria and Brad and Wendy) and headed to Mt. Pleasant MI to see Theory of a Deadman and Creed in concert. The weather was a little cool but nice. Stopped in Gaylord MI at Zips 45th Parallel Harley-Davidson along the way. (In case ya didn't figure, it's located half way between the equator and the north pole). Pulled over in a rest area about 50 miles from Mt. Pleasant and it got nice enough for me to say, "Time to ride the rest of the way in my t-shirt". My bud Frank decided to go along with the idea. Pull back on I127, around the next curve and behold, a black sky a fuggin' rain. Just enough rain to get ya damp and give ya a little chuckle. The rain stopped about 10 miles from the hotel and we was dry on arrival. The only thing that worried me was the fact that the concert was out doors, rain or shine.

We settled in our rooms, right after a quick trip to the closest party store and had time for a couple of cold ones before we caught the shuttle to the casino. Had time for a few(more) drinks and headed to the out door venue. Was overcast, very humid but the rain held off. Once inside(the outside), found our seats(and the beer tent), which were very good and settled in for a great show. Theory of a Deadman was very good, and to my surprise Creed was fantastic. Frank's wife said this was here first concert. To me this was a surprise seeing as we are in our mid forty's. By the end of the show(and a few more drinks) I had her waving the rock n roll horns and singing with the crowd.

Saturday my plan was to head east to Standish MI and head north up M23 along the shore of Lake Huron to Alpena Mi and head home from there Sunday. The weather man said the was a 20% chance of rain in Mt. Pleasant Saturday and sunny and 80ish along the Lake Huron Shore. Well Guess what!! The weather guesser missed by a mile. Wake up Saturday to a down pour. Check put wasn't till noon, so we got to wait out the rain. Headed east through Gladwin MI and as we got closer to the the lake it got quite nice......................until we started north. We ended up riding 100 miles in the rain. When it wasn't a light rain, it was pouring. We got to Alpena and realized a major brain fart. WE(I) didn't reserve a room. We got there about 7pm, cold wet, hungry and homeless. Managed to get rooms in Gaylord and only had another 75 miles to ride in that crap. The ride home Sunday was a straight 110 miles up I75, kinda boring, but it was dry.

Everyone had a great time, regardless of the weather. Maria saw her first concert and loved it. Wendy got past her fear of riding in the rain. Some people(who drive a cage) look at kinda weird when ya ride in the rain, but it didn't stop us from having a great weekend. After all it turned out to be 600 miles of fun.

The bikes at Zips. (ya Brads GF rides rice, and we gotta fix that)

Brads Shovel, and yes the "trouble head" lived up to its name. Only had to stop about six times to replace or tighten loose bolts. ;-) The bike has been restored and has 30k original miles on it.

The boys. Brad, Frank and The Reverend in the middle.

The Ladies(who were troopers in the crap weather) Wendy, Maria and my better half, Wanda.

Weather people only forecast. Sorry about the being homeless without rooms for a while! I know the feeling very well. Glad the concert was great.

Some slightly intoxicated peeps, after the show. Glad we caught the shuttle. Looks like Glyde's beer meter is full ;-)

Not only for the ride, but I wish Saturday was a little nicer. Going east from Mt Pleasant and up the coast of Lake Huron is gorgeous ride, would have loved some pics, just to show ya'll. I know Texas is a ways away, but if anyone is looking for nice, laid back riding, the state of Michigan has just about everything.
