  • Austin to Thee Sisters and back

Well, it’s been a little more than a week and I’m having some serious withdraws. While at the ROT Rally a few guys and my wife and I decided to make the long trip from Austin, TX to ride the Three Sisters (335, 326, and 337). We got a little bit of a late start but every one was ready to make the 450+ mile round trip out there. We headed out west on US 290 to a small town called Fredericksburg then gassed up. Once all topped off; we continued west to Kerrville. Once at Kerrville we took I-10 to Hwy 41. The cool thing about that stretch of I-10 was the 80 mph speed limit (which translates to 90+) and the scenery

    I-10

Once at Hwy 41 just off of I-10 we pulled over for a water break and for some more photos.

Now that we were on Hwy 41, we had a nice long stretch to the last gas station for 70+ miles. The ride was nice with a lot of great scenery and winding curves

After about and hour + of riding we pulled in to this gas station that was the last stop for 70+ miles. According to the owner and the sign out front, this place has been around since 1932. We decided to top off and try some of the jerky. This place knew that it was the only place for miles so the gas and jerky was expensive but all well worth it.

Now that our tanks were full, our stomachs half full, and our wallets empty, we headed out on the last stretch of road that led to the first of the Three Sisters, 335. Once at 335 we pulled of the read to talk about what was in store and what to do in case something went bad…..oh and to take more pictures!

Once on 335 (the trickiest one) my wife started to take pictures galore. This was the first time any of us in the group has ever ridden out there so we were real cautious. Once we got the hang of it, the speeds started to increase but the bad roads calmed you back down.

About half was though 335; I saw some water that looked great to beat the heat. Once the other guys pulled we all got off the bikes to take a look. We didn’t want to start cutting up too soon because two guys were fishing. Once they left we started cutting up and….you guessed it, we took more pictures.

We started off easy by just putting out feet in the cold water.

That didn’t last at all because I took off my clothes (left the boxers on for fear of a Wild Hogs moment) and jumped in

While in the water I had a great idea….yep, more pics!

After about two hours we decided to finish the trip. Here are some photos of the rest of the ride…hope you enjoy them!

Once we completed the Three Sisters we headed back to the “jerky store to fill up and head back to Austin. The ride was nice a cool but the dear were starting to come out. We saw them everywhere. As the sun started to set we rushed to get back but we didn’t even come close to making it. After almost 12 hours since we left Austin we made it back to Austin. Man, what a journey.

Those were great and the roads/scenery do look awesome! You didn't bring us any jerky because it was $9 per ounce!!! That would have been an awesome ride and a regretful one as well after seeing all the fun pictures!

That the truth Frank! After filling up 2 tanks and getting a little jerky the bill was around $45. We plan on doing a Big Bend run soon. Are you down for an iron butt?

7 or 8 hours to get there....Maybe. As long as it does not interfere with my Florida trip that I want to make.
