  • Illinois-Wisconsin Ride

Had my longest ride yet yesterday. 397 miles with my riding buddy and his wife (they're my son's in-laws).

From near O'Hare in Illinois to my sister's place north of Madison, WI on U.S. 12 to Wisconsin 73 and County V in Dane County. Then up to the Merrimac ferry and north to Baraboo via County V and Wisconsin 113. From there on County A to Lake Delton outside Wisconsin Dells. My folks used to have a cottage on the east side of the lake. Then came back down U.S. 12 to Wisconsin 78 and 92 west of Madison. Some great twisty roads with little traffic. Took longer especially with the detour on 92 that added about 20 miles but it was worth it. Finally connected with U.S. 14 to come back home through Janesville, WI.

The weather was great though a little on the warm side.

Hey Doorgunner, good to see you back. Sounds like a nice ride. Last year my buddy and I did the Ferry, it was a lot of fun. There are some nice roads up in that area and that's usually where we head also for some nice riding. We'll have to hook up with the other Illinois HERD members for another ride this summer.

It was a great ride and I agree that we need to hook up for a ride this summer.

I am only 40 miles from the Dells and haven't had the chance to ride that area yet. Sounds like a good time.

Then I guess it didn't happen except in my mind. Since it was a "working" ride, I never even thought to take my camera. Dumb, I know.

You should try it, I think you may like it. We took 12 down to Sauk City and immediately after crossing the river, turned right on Wisconsin 78 and traveled down to Mt. Horeb where we picked up 92. The best part was on 78 and a little way on 92 to about Belleville. It may have been more fun to take 69 south of Mt. Horeb to New Glarus or Monticello from what I remember of that area from years past.

The pavement was a little rough textured but smooth and clear of sand and debris. Let us know if you go down that way. (And take pics, unlike me!)
