  • Kings goin in for surgery!

Don't take this as me bitchin, more like informing! So i have just under 7,500 miles on my king and i must say that i love everything about it!! While riding to work on monday i got a wiff of a burning smell, so i pulled into work and parked. I got off and looked the bike over and noticed a bit of smoke comin off the pipe down by the gearbox. Here i was leakin alittle bit of gear oil, it was drippin down on the exhaust bracket which was what i was smellin. No biggie, its under warranty so i won't get excited cause after all, thats what a warranty is for right? Besides its a new bike so i'd rather work out the kinks now so not to worry about em later!! So i work in Hershey PA and the dealer is in Mechanicburg PA, i rode to work knowin i had an appt. to have her looked at at 5:00 but the forcast was callin for rain, now i ain't worried about the bike gettin alittle dirty but traffic on rt. 83 and 581 is just crazy especially during rush hour and add alittle rain to the mix...ain't happenin!! I'm sure i'll get shet for this but the OL got off work early for a dentist appt. so i called her up, had her hook up the trailer and meet me at work and i'm sure glad i did cause i would've needed a ride home anyway. So i took the king up, they looked at it and there was oil all underneath the bike. I never left more than a dime size spot but one time anywhere i parked. They cleaned the underneath of the bike, put dye in the gear oil and took her for a ride. I overheard the tech after he got back tell the service writer that its the tranny and he's never seen anything like it with the new 6 speed trannys so i'm thinkin the worst!! Here i went and talked to the tech himself and from what he explained its the gasket between the tranny and the engine so they need to remove the tranny completely just to get to it!! They said it should be done sometime late today or Fri. at the latest, hopefully it gets done by this weekend cause i sure do wanna ride!! On the upside to this i'm gonna get new gear oil out of it!! ...This isn't the first oil leak i've had, at about 1200 miles one of the oil pan gaskets(either gear oil or motor oil, can't remember) leaked so they replaced the pan and the gasket that time. The tech said that fix is still solid so thats good news!!
Again, not bitchin at all, just speakin of my expierience and to remind everyone to keep an eye on things cause ya have a warranty for a reason and i can say that i'm using mine to its potential!!! ...I love my king and wouldn't trade for the world, The only thing i might trade if for is a CVO Streetglide!

Thanks for the reminder to check for leaks, RD! I'm with you on the CVO... but I like the CVO Convertable. Nice bike! A bit out of my price range, right now.

Quick update....dropped the king off at the stealer last night to have the 10,000 mile service done today. When i picked it up tonight the service went well and they also found and fixed another leak at the inner primary shift shaft seal! Yet another reminder to look ur bike over often!! BTW the wife picked me up a sticker for my helmet last weekend that says: My Bike Doesn't Leak Oil, It marks Its Territory. Fitting huh?
