I talked to a smart young man the other day, and he said, "You're young, and you're in good shape!"

Normally, flattered at a compliment such as that, I'd say- you're full of crap! But in the context of our discussion, it kinda made sense. The young man is a surgeon, and he's going to go after me in a couple weeks. I've been diagnosed with prostate cancer... A pretty darned advanced case, too, so from all the options there are to treat what I have, its' removal is the only sensible option for me.

The cool thing is it'll be done robotically, with a 24 axis (four heads and 6-axis movement) rig. This stuff I understand! We design robot cells and EOA tooling, although not to this complexity.

Anyway, some of his patients aren't in such good shape. Hence, the compliment.

    ~~

My family knows this, and I'm now including Herd folks as my family. I've been of two minds on telling this, but wanted to mention this now, as I'm going to abstain from voting in the Herdstock state vote. Chances are I'll fully recover in a fraction of the time before June. We'll see!

Hey, I ain't going ANYWHERE, folks. I intend on being around, and on fully recovering, and being a total nuisance for decades to come.

Thought I'd let you friends know.

Seems that You have it under control. I know several people that went for removal, they are alive and healthy with zero signs of that nasty C word in their bodies.
    We be praying for You.

Dave, I know, too many, guys our age, that have been and are now going through, this same prostrate cancer. All of them have successfully completed treatment and are living normal lives. Cancer treatments today are amazing. I have written here before of Pattys dad, throat cancer, then lung cancer, they gave him 6 months to live, just over five years ago. And he is cured. Research is making huge strides in identifying the oddities of cancer, how it morphs and the ever changing chemo cocktails for treatment, etc. You will be fine, especially with the Herd family at your side praying for your quick recovery. Please, keep us informed. And thanks for advising us of your condition.

Dave, being a cancer survivor myself, I can attest that a positive attitude is a great start to beating the monster. Prayers for you and looking forward to riding with you in the future!

Thanks, each and every one of you!

This surgeon says he's very likely to "get it all", and predicted there may be a 10% chance I'll need some radiation afterward.

I am (naturally) a bit scared, but I'm optimistic.

And, my wife is a cancer survivor, going on 17 years.

I guess I'm a cancer survivor too. I had thyroid cancer along with 7 nodules in my throat, a few of them had cancer cells. Doc removed all of it. Said if your going to get cancer, this is the best one to get as it rarely spreads. I get a check up every six months still, cancer cells are evident but not growing. Doc says it's normal. OK. I guess.

Surgeon nicked my voice box, made a ever so slight change in my voice. I didn't worry about it, my opera days are over with anyway.

Dave, I wonder, if they nick your butt, will the tone of your farts change? You might want to ask......

                I'm sorry, I'm a sick old dog I guess.......

3 AM Thursday, 11 hours after surgery, my night RN Robert (whom I'm nominating for sainthood) and me did two laps around 9 North.

I'm in awe. Now, all this is new to me... but a tricky 3 hour surgery, with cutting edge robotics, to remove a cancer-rotten organ, re-construct what's left behind, then doing laps in 11 hours post surgery, and home in exactly 46 hours.

                                        I am humbled, and grateful.
