  • Diesel fuel mandate in Pennsylvania

As of 5-1-2010 Pennsylvania has mandated that all diesel fuel for re-sale must contain no less than 2% bio fuel.

If you own a vehicle that uses diesel fuel all stations in Pennsyvania are required to sell no less than 2% bio fuel. During the summer months this may not be an issue. During the winter months you could experience problems with the fuel gelling because not all stations use fuel with winter additives or even add their own additives due to cost.

I'd much rather see even just 2% of my fuel money go to American farmers than ragheads. I've run bio in the past with no problems whatsoever. A 2% blend shouldn't raise the gel temp by much. Most folks out west run anti-gel in the winter anyway, and thats with winter-blend between Oct-April.

One of the facilities that I am over at Stennis Space Center houses 14 Large medium speed diesel engines (10 V-16 Nordbergs & 4 V-12 Cooper-Bessemers). These are vintage early 60 model engines and have no emission controls. The new EPA rule for air emissions will require me to reduce total emissions by 70% before 2013. Initial rough estimates are around 85 to 90K per engine to achieve compliance. That is alot of money for engines that have only 7,000 hours in almost 40 years of service.

You have to be kidding me that they want those engines to be updated to meet the standards of todays engines.
