  • Never happened to me before....

It was about 90 and humid and I was at my son's baseball game. I took the bike and the wife took the car. Game was over and I get on the bike to head home and as I'm trying to shift out of first gear I can't get my foot off the foot peg. WTF. It was the weirdest feeling ever. I somehow got this huge glob of bubble gum on my boot right in the area where the foot peg hits and it was like fuggen glue. As much as I tried to get it off I just couldn't get it all off and it's still sticky as hell.

This ever happen to anyone else? It was a really bad feeling and I was messing up my shifts for the rest of the ride home.

I had my peg unthread n fall off in city traffic once. That puckered my butthole.

I've had gum on my boot while riding before, speed up to about 60mph and LIGHTLY drag your foot, cleans the gum off instantly....I've also had my foot slip off of the pegs really easily, before....I think I stepped in roadkill at a stoplight, had some guts on my boot....greased it right up.
It's not "derailed", as long as the last post relates to the post above it...it's just on a different rail, heading into a more interesting direction

Problem was the gum was in the instep or whatever you call that area between the heel and the sole. I couldn't wipe it off on the pavement as it was not touching the ground. I ended up making it home after hitting neutral more times than I can remember and going out to the curb and rubbing the sht out of it until it was off. Then I had to take a scraper to my peg. All is good now but it really messed me up.

OK, I had a new thing to add to this list that happened to me yesterday. I was at my son's final baseball game pretty far away from home (about 60 miles) and it was a beautiful day with a slight chance of rain at night. Well the slight chance of rain became a major thunderstorm heading our way. My son's team took second place and they called the game because of lightning (they were losing in the championship game at the time so they got second place) and I told my wife I was heading for covered shelter and I would be home after I sat out the rain. I headed for the nearest gas station I knew of but didn't make it in time before the rain hit. Bike skidded on me and I almost dumped it twice and couldn't see much of anything and finally made it to the gas station soaked to the bone. Rain gear and chaps at home. After sitting out the rain for a couple of hours I got back on the road. I was freezing cold since I was soaked so bad and unfortunately the storm was going the same direction that I was so as I was riding I caught back up with it. Speed limit was 55 and I was lucky to get to 40-45 as the rain pounded me and I was shivering but there was no place to hide out for a little while.

A guy in a pickup truck was about to pass me and then he slowed down and got behind me. He turned off his headlights and followed me matching my speed as I went faster or slower. At first I didn't realize what he was doing but he was shadowing me making sure nobody came up from behind and couldn't see me. We went about 15 miles that way and it was a nice feeling having him/her back there and when I eventually found shelter I gave him/her a quick wave. I never had that happen before and actually I never really thought about doing that myself as I was driving my car in the rain and saw a biker but if time allows, I'll return the favor sometime in the future.

Anything like this ever happen to you before? Have you done this for other bikers when you could? It's new to me but really made a difference last night.
