  • It's a damn shame...

I have pretty thick skin but there are a few things that simply are unacceptable. I just spent about 10 minutes over at another HD site that I frequent, although not as much as I used to, and I'm puzzled as to how/why the moderators permit the overt racist comments and absolute contempt for law enforcement?

I get it that there are people out there that will NEVER like the Police and no matter what we do it isn't good enough or RIGHT. But for someone to suggest that shooting two Police Officers is a part of the job demonstrates an utter seperation from reality. It isn't normal in American society for the murder of Police Officers to be an accepted practice simply because some feel the Police are all criminals themselves.

I also find it hard to believe that Harley-Davidson condones the slaying of Law Enforcement professionals and all the racial comments that permiate the other site. I don't know if HD takes an interest in a website that uses their name and allows this behavior but would find it hard to believe that they do. Just a thought.

It's a damned shame that the conduct on a website is so abrasive and crass that I actually have to limit my time there. I apologize for bringing some of the nonsense from another site here but I needed to vent for a minute or two.

TheBoss if you feel this isn't the place, please delete this post. Oh and THANK YOU for creating a forum that doesn't foster racist and completely radical comments.

Well check 6 I think I read the same post and it puzzles me also. Now grant it there are a few officers that give the bunch of them a bad name but to make a comment like this (and if I am correct this might be the comment that you are refering to) "Cops are just another form of Orginized Crime live by the sword Die by the sword" is just plain stupid. If that isn't the comment please share I would like to know what it was.

Dan, you are correct. And I know that there are some dipshit Cops out there that ruin it for the rest of us but the constant nauseating Cop bashing that is permitted there is not what I care to associate myself with; I get enough of that at work. It's unfortunate but I guess I might just have to avoid it and focus my attention solely on this GREAT site. Not a hard decision ;)

I figured that was the comment that got ya started. I don't blame you for getting riled up and needing to vent. You guys put yourself on the line everyday and hold a tough position to keep the public safe and some people just don't see it that way.

And I think that's where some people are so seperated from reality. Law Enforcement of today is MUCH different than it was just 10 years ago. I'm not referring to the dangers, as those will always be there, but I'm referring to the way we Police ourselves. There was a time, and in some places it still may be that way, that the Police did everything they could to cover for a crooked Officer. But I can tell ya from personal experience that todays Law Enforcement is different, it's more professional and we don;t accept illegal behavior by other Officers. THere isn't a single person in Law Enforcement that I know that wants to be associated with a crooked Copper. In my agency if you lie at all for any reason you risk being terminated...and IMO that's the way it should be. I stress to the Officers I work with that the only policy is telling the truth, regardless of what the perceived or actual consequences might be. There are times that I just wish I could impress this on people who feel that Coppers are nothing more than organized criminals...then again it might be a waste of time.

I actually sympathize with today's law enforcement officers. They are not arming them but giving them alternatives and in another ten years, they will have switches from a branch or bush because then taser guns will be too much to bare!

So true and as long as American LE administrators continue to handcuff their Officers by not equipping them properly the numbers that are murdered in the line of duty will continue. America has changed. America is no longer a country of unicorns, rainbows and impossibly blue skies. We have a realistic threat of terrorism from foreign sources as well as domestic. I'm fortunate that my agency permits the use of current equipment and we are always looking for new way to solve problems.

My department allows the purchase of privately owned weapons. For example I carry my own personally purchased pistol(s) and patrol rifle every day.

TheBoss you are soooo right. Each year Officers are killed because they are too afraid to use the appropriate level of force and are more worried about what may happen if they use that amount of force which is reasonably objective (Graham v. Connor). It's a damn shame that we are going down the road where we need to greet murderers with a box of chocolates instead of a well placed chunk of lead to the tip of the nose :D.

I again thank you all for letting me vent. Now I'll crawl back into my cave.

Check, I used to hate cops - just for being cops! I grew up in KY in the 60s. It was a wild place in a wild time. Young people and cops seemed destined to clash, and we did. Admittidly, I was a crazy fugger and asked for it sometimes, but I have been beaten by the cops just for having a beard! I once threw a cop off a third story balcony - he was trying to shoot me for resisting arrest. I pissed him off by outrunning him on my scoot. He found it parked and came to my door, I wasn't going to be arrested that night. We both survived. Anyway, long story short, I certainly agree with you that cops aren't what they used to be. I now have the utmost respect for all military and law enforcement. It's one of the most difficult and dangerous jobs - period!

Thank you for what you do!

My perception about Law Enforcement changed well over 18 years ago when a friend of mine got shot and killed in Waco, TX (David Koresh - Cult Drama). And I know all about the controversy over this but still a tragic event.

I would visit and walk using the back door and the unit (Texas-TABC) would greet me with open arms and show me around...including the weaponry cellar where I had the opportunity to smell gun powder as a fragrance!

I'm far from being a LE person but very fortunate to have experienced nothing but the best in professionalism out of every encounter. I realize there are thugs out there who feel differently but fug'em all. You do wrong by people you should get treated as such!

I completely understand. We talk each day at work about waht I'll refer to as 'Old School' and 'New School' Law Enforcement. I stress to all new Officers, and have for over 13 years, that simply being a Copper means nothing. If you can't or won't present yourself as a professional and treat people with respect than Law Enforcement isn't the profession for them. I used to have young MPs come to my unit/platoon and as soon as they put that brassard on WATCH OUT because they were automatically the baddest mofo's around. When I would see this behavior I would immediately correct it and explain why we not only don't do that but wy we can't. Civilian Law Enforcement is different as the screening process is strictly controlled so we basically pick and choose who gets hired but the training and standards are all the same. I think it's unfortunate that you had to endure the side of Law Enforcement that I don't ant to be a part of. I pride myself on a motto that I've used for a LONG time and that's simply 'DO WHAT'S RIGHT." This is where integrity come into play and that means doing what's right when you don't have to. I know I'm not in the minority and it's a great feeling being part of my brothers and sisters in blue, green, and brown.

But what else is nice is being part of this forum/community where we too share so much in common from love for our respective countries, family, and fellow members. This place is truly somethig special and I'm proud to be a member. Rainrider thanks for the comments. You are a class act!
