  • Daughter's new job

My daughter is home from school and has had a really hard time finding a job. The job she thought she had was gone when she got home. Finally started a new job today doing manual labor in a packaging plant. It pays $10 an hour and she needs the money.

50 people working. My daughter is the only one (other than the supervisor) who speaks English. I feel bad for her as she feels like the minority (and she is) but I tell her to just think of the money..........

She got the call yesterday to report this morning and go through the shipping doors. When she got there she couldn't find the shipping doors so she started asking people where they were. She said nobody understood her and she ended up walking around and eventually found them. Good thing she gave herself extra time. 6AM start time.

Congrats to your daughter but I'm surprised she got the job over the "other" minorities.

I made a few calls to people I know an managed to get her this job. I knew it was going to be something like this but I didn't think it would be as bad as this. I told her sometimes you need to work a job you don't like, it's life. You need the money for school and that's the important thing. You have a goal your working towards and this is part of reaching that goal. Think of the end results whenever you get frustrated......

I know it tough for her but this also can be motivation to work hard in school and get herself in a position to get a better job when she graduates.

Proud of your daughter for giving this a go, and you are a supportive parent telling her what she needs to hear. Ya'll hang in there; something better will come along soon.

                                Gee -

What did she study? I have a lot of connections in the business world and would be happy to do all I can.

Did she graduate with her undergrad degree or a masters?

Feel free to PM me if you would like to discuss...

Glad she has a job. They are tough to come by right now. One thought, how many of the non English speaking people in the factory are here "illegally'? Just curious.
