  • Sad day...

Hey gang. Yesterday turned out kinda rough. My moms 22 year old cat had to be put down. You've never seen such an amazing relationship before (except maybe in the movies and mainly with dogs). This was a rare, one-man type cat and even strangers to the house that had only been there a few minutes, would mention about how they got along so well. Mom's 70 so you can see that 'Spot' really meant a lot to her (I affectionately called her 'Stain'...yeah, I liked the cat too, she was pretty cool).

We're neither of us religious, but if anyone don't mind a few words to try and get my mom out of a funk, it'd sure be greatly appreciated. I'll just let her read the thread after a while. Thanks everyone.

Sorry to hear that Yochanon. I really get attached to my pets. In addition to a 9 year old German Shepard, I have a dog (mutt) that is 18 years old; I intentionally bred the parents based upon obvious great genes, found good homes for all but the one I kept. I dread the day...

It seems no words can help much at times like these. But tell your mom I'll be thinking about her and Spot/Stain (I like that) when I go out to give Chuck an extra pat on the head this mornng.

hate to hear that yoch, i had a cat that was dear to my heart and he had to be put down due to his stroke. i don't particularly like cats but "sunshine" was my buddy.i burried him in a special place in the yard and have a sunshine stone for a headstone. i planted some flowers there too, i know how she feels, i'll be praying for her and tell her we're thinking of her.

Sorry about your pet. Had to put my lab/shepherd down a couple years ago and didn't feel right about it for weeks. I'm cool now but it was tough then.

22 years, you didn't have a pet, you had a child. That's terrible. I dread the day my dogs are gonna go, it's unbelievable how hard that is to deal with. It only gets easier from here though

Yochanon, Anyone who has owned one of these special pets knows how attached we get to them. They are like children and only want to please us. I had a special cat named Sassy who acted more like a dog, she would even "speak" on command. Please tell your mom we will be thinking of her and Spot and sending special prayers their way.

Very sad indeed and prayers to help MOM ease the pain. Being with a cat that long is amazing and to think that was 1/3 of her life with the feline companion! She must have loved Stain and took very good care of it as 22 years is a very good life for a cat. I know it's going to be hard but knowing that the cat is in a real nice place, should bring peace and serenity. God Bless your mother Yochanon!!!

Mom got a real kick out of all the kind words! She asked me to say Thank You to everyone, and I'll say it too. You're all good people and I couldn't be prouder to know all of ya.

You are very talented Boss - I had no idea!

I was thinkin' about Spot and your mom earlier today Yoch when I was playing fetch with Heidi in the back yard. Don't take Chuck out therel I'm afraid he'll fall off the bluff. He minds well, but he is deaf as a post. It don't bother him a bit. He can see fine an he just cues off Heidi to keep up with the sounds in the area. Animals are awesome!

My buddy had a cat that would fetch. He'd throw a sock down the halleway and that cat would entertain us for hours by bringin' it back. That was back in the sixties; might be somewhat less entertain' with out "special" stimulation...
