That same site is also selling a 1 Watt laser. The disclaimer for the laser says not to shine it into the sky because it can distract pilots and is capable of causing eye damage up to 45 miles away.

Technically a true 1W laser is illegal as Hell (in the general public)! Seriously, when I was the tech support on the Lexel lasers @ the S Florida museum... we'd run full dome coverage from the laser bench at no more than .5W, ever (I used to test it in an empty theater all the way up @ .75W, and the reflected images were nearly too bright to look at.)
Remember this is after the principle beam has been run through a myriad of scanners/splitters and spread all over the inside of a 60' planetarium dome.
If they're selling a real 1W, they'll be out of business soon... FDA and NFSA will bury them.
Actually it asys at the top of the site NOT AVAILABLE TO U.S. RESIDENTS!
So I guess the FDA won't bother 'em...Last edited by Monk; 06-17-2010, 01:19 PM.Official Herd Dumbass

That was my baby, that unit!
:cool
'Bout a hunnerd years ago.
I came onboard after that article was written, and I did automate the bench and all the effects. We went to DAT masters for all the shows.
Then one guy could basically load the system and push a button and go.
Ahh... those were the days! I used to be somebody!
Anyway... NICE LIGHT!Last edited by Monk; 06-17-2010, 01:11 PM.Official Herd Dumbass
