  • I need a truck.. but which one?!?

It's time to get a new vehicle.. and I want a truck. I want a full size, 4wd, V8.. and preferably a crew cab.

    But I never owned one..

I have buddies who swear by Chevy, one that swears by Ford, and another that will only buy Toyotas. So how the hell do I make up my mind?

need some advice here from fellow herdsters before I make a very expensive decision that I regret..

            Dave,

My 2009 is awsome. My 2003 was awsome too. My 2006 leaked because of a sun roof..stupid me for having a sun roof on a truck. Other then that the dodges have been very good to me.

Unless Ford has improved I'm done with Fords. Was a Ford guy up until I bought my wife a new 2002 Escape and in 3 months the transmission fouled up and they put a refurbished one that fouled up again when we traded it in 2006(we new the people that bought it and shortlyafter them owning it the refurbed tranny went).

I like my 2001 RAM 1500, bought it new in 2000. If I were looking at new it would be another Dodge or a Nissan Titan.

Sounds like it was a nice truck. What all problems have you had and how long have you had it?

Bought it 3 years ago, with 35K on it. Sat on the lot for one year, and was leased for 4 years. Has a full depth aluminum tool box in the bed, Rhino lining, Vent Shades on the windows, running boards and a tow package. It had the OEM tires still on it....

After buying it, I had to replace the tires as the original owner painfully lived next to a nail factory.....or so it seemed. Every tire leaked, and had at least 2 plugs in each one.

I had to replace the exhaust 30 days later, as it started to come undone, pealing in layers due to rust. No big loss, as I replaced it with Borla Stainless from the cat back.

Since May of 2007, under warranty, this is the list of items replaced:

                        Radiator
                        Waterpump
                        idler pullies x2
                        Alternator
Rebuilt the rear differential (broken clutch pack retaining clips)
                        Power steering rack
                        Power steering hoses x2
                        Battery
x2 upper A-arms as the ball joints are incorporated.
                        x2 lower ball joints
                        rear driveshaft U-joints
power steering rack AGAIN, after one year of the first one.
                        Front cranks seal
                        Rear main oil seal
                        Passenger window switch
Broken wire in the driver's door for electric lock
                        rear shocks: OEM
                        front shocks:OEM
Front shocks a second time, with Napa Gold, as OEMs only last about 10K, before the truck starts changing lanes on it's own, after hitting a bump.

Other then that......she's cherry..........just turned 72K and my warranty is officially over, as of last wek.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread as next spring, I'll be shopping for a nre truck too....

I want to say FORD....but the new ones are so damn ugly. I know lots of peole with Chevys. And they all have great luck with them.....but can't get myself to buy a new one after the whole "We the People of the automotive states and unions" thing, Dodges have been good to me, but overpriced and fuel milage way too low (usually) and Toyotas.....my LORD, is that a full sized truck or a plastic oversized toy from the future? what the hell were their designers thinking, that is one ugly SOB

Living in Texas..I have had my share! My preference - Ford. Something about BUILT to LAST. Chevy does have a good truck but if I had to pick on....I would stick with another FORD.

Not trying to be a smart [email protected]@ but just because your gonna different opinions. Personally I like GM products but if I was to buy a new truck I might go with a Ford. Took the words right off of my keyboard!!

The answer to his question is....Yes, buy that one. Not only because opinions are like....uhhh....well are always antedotal which means little or nothing. Everyone has a horror story of that POS they owned or a friend that does.

I'm of the belief they are all so close that it boils down to not much more than bang for the buck/dealer incentive, body style (cause you don't buy a truck you think is ugly LOL) and yes...the color.

I've owned Ford, Chevy, Nisson and now a Toyota and they were/are all compact but I'd buy anyone of them again....even though in this case the Chevy S-10 was the only true POS I have ever owned....but I looked at them when I bought the Toy cause I knew it was just "one of those things"
