  • Old school gas station

I'm sure I've posted this old gas station on here before, it's only about 11 miles from where I grew up, and I can't help myself. Everytime I go by it I gotta stop, it just seems like a cool photo op.
It's actually a bit famous, for those who have seen or are familiar with the movie Rainman with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. It's the gas station they stop at to make a phone call, the scene where Raymond farts in the phone booth.

There was an old gas station about 25 miles down the pike from me, they had about an 8 foot "Sinclair" sign with the dinosaur in the background. One day I went by and the sign was gone, some lucky dog got it. Since then the building has fallen in due to neglect.

I was googling Sinclar looking for a logo, the one above is not like what was down the road....looking at their website, I didn't realize Sinclair was still business with many stations nationwide (none in PA). I thought they were merged with Sunoco?

It actually stands for Anderson-Prichard Oil Corporation, and was founded here in Oklahoma. I believe they may still be in business but under apco international. I think they teamed up with an Argentinean oil company awhile back.

Doing some fishing, I didn;t go too deep, but found the company closed in 1960. Here is a current web page and a FaceBook page, being maintained by someone? Lots of cool old pics.

It's a cool building and a nice photo op! Not like that abandoned town Dane took us through - cannot remember the name, but it kinda gave me the creeps. :)
