  • Safe Riding TIPS

Season is here and some of us have already experienced some close calls. We started this thread at the Harley-Davidson forum last year...I think it's a good tool to freshen up on a few good tips!

Stay vigilant and look at least 10 seconds ahead of you -
    Wear proper riding gear!

Keep your ride maintained. Check Tire Pressures often...

When at a stop light, keep your bike in gear, leave yourself a safe distance if there is a car in front of you, have an escape route, keep your eyes on what may be coming up behind through the mirrors and flash your brakes as they approach to get their attention.....

Make eye contact with anyone pulling up to exit from a parking lot...Keep your finger on the horn just in case, and leave yourself an out...

When you see a hot chick in shorts walking, don't think you're the only one looking at her...Watch for the mutha in front of you for when he hits his brakes to have a closer look at her too...

Look as far ahead as possible. Determine the what ifs and what you will do if and when they materialize. Don't ride scared; ride prepared.

If you are stopped at a light and see a vehicle approaching in your mirror a flash of your brake lights may help to grab their attention, leave plenty of following distance.

I just experienced this. Try to stay off the patch fill on curved entrance and exit ramps. Your tires WILL roll out.

Never take for granted, that other people know you're there....and right or wrong, you will lose based upon the laws of physics.
It's not "derailed", as long as the last post relates to the post above it...it's just on a different rail, heading into a more interesting direction
