  • Pass the Smell Test?

I posted this over on the "Roll Call" thread, but it is probably better suited here..

"Howdy HERD! Just got back from the Harley Hospital. Had to leave the scoot there. Maybe one of you Harley Mechanics can tell me if this passes the smell test:

I took it in a couple of weeks ago for some pidley stuff and while they had it they advised me that there were minor leaks in the clutch housing and inner primary that should be taken care of before my extended warranty runs out in July. So I took it in this morning and was droolin' all over a Ultra Limited while I waited when they advised me that they also found a leak in the rear .

I park it on clean cement both at work and at home and have never seen one drop of oil under it. Is the dealer just rippin' off Harley Davidson?

If I should move this question to another area, let me know.

PS - Is a rockerbox anything like box wine?

BTW, its an '07 Road King Classic. Must be leakin' like a '70 something!"

I don't know much but IMO the dealer mechanic's will call it a leak if the outside of the seal or seam is the least bit damp or even just attracting dust.

My rocker box covers show a thin stain round the gasket. If I drag a clean finger over it I get some,,feel's dry tho.
A buddy said when It feels wet there new seals are needed and Crock said to use a thin layer of permatex also.
So what are ya to do,,,Harley's are expensive,,If Mine leaks I'm worried, what If a seal lets go while your underway,,,burns sumthin up,,,or worse,,,soaks the rear tire in Oil,,, I dunno.

If they are wanting to fix everything under warantee, and it's not costing you anything, go for it, usually they do their best to get out of warantee work, or at least put it off, but if they wanna fix it, let them
