  • Welfare Applications

For those unfamiliar, Welfare payments are made in the US to individuals and families with income below a level. The following quotations are taken from actual letters received by the Welfare Department in applications for support of receiving payments.

I am forwarding my marriage certificate and 6 children. I had seven but one died which was baptized on a half sheet of paper.

I am writing the welfare department to say that my baby was born two years old. When do I get my money?

Mrs. Jones has not had any clothes for two years and has been visited regularly by the clergy.

I cannot get sick pay. I have six children can you tell me why?

I am glad to report that my husband who is missing is dead.

This is my eighth child. What are you going to do about it.

Please find for if my husband is dead. The man I am now living with can't do anything until he knows.

I am very much annoyed to find out that you have branded my son illiterate. This is a dirty lie as I was married a week before he was born.

In answer to your letter, I have given birth to a son weighing 10 lbs. I hope this is satisfactory.

I am forwarding my marriage certificate and my 3 children one of which is a mistake as you can see.

My husband got his project cut off about two weeks ago and I haven't had any relief since.

Unless I get my husband's money pretty soon, I will be forced to lead an immortal life.

You have my changed little boy to a girl, will this make any difference?

I have no children yet, as my husband is a truck driver and works night and day.

I want money as quick as I can get it. I have been in bed with the doctor for two weeks and he doesn't do me any good. If things don't improve, I will have to send for another doctor.

In accordance with your instructions, I have given birth to twins in the enclosed envelope.

I know this is a joke and all, but it really pisses me off some of the people who are on welfare.
My wife and I are living on one income currently, she gets paid every 2 weeks. I do get a few odd jobs here and there, but they don't equal out to much in the long run.
we are raising 4 kids (2 teens 1 is 10 and 1 is 7this week) we are not behind on our mortgage, nor on the payment for our bikes.
we don't have a savings account at all any more, and we have less than $50 in our checking account. SHe gets paid in 3 more days (thank God)
but we are not on public assistance, nor welfare, etc.

from looking at state guidelines, we qualify for energy assistance to help with out utility bills, we also qualify for up to $300 per month in grub stubs (food stamps) but we don't get them, we do everything we can to provide for our family on our own

I understand that some people NEED it, and that is fine, if they need help, they need it. but too many people abuse it and the system lets them

OK, done with my rant....carry on

Sorry Josh even though on paper it looks like you qualify for some assistance, once you walk into that office it would be denied. Much respect to you though, hang in there things will change.

When My Mom and Dad wuz a raisin us six children dad could not seem to work anywheres where there was good pay so He worked in a grubby little shop for twentyfive dollars a week, mom could have got a lot of assistance back then but refused to do so.
Mine younger sis and I was talking and She said "You know we were poor when We were growing up but Mom was too proud to let us know".
I think that is whats the matter with a large part of society today,No Pride,no pride in accomplishing a days work for a days pay,no pride in carrying out groceries in a paper sack and thinking""I worked and I got food or fuel or utilities, etc."
Mine wife and some friends tell Me tht I can get food stamps utilitie assistance and the list goes on but I do not want those things,I would rather be cold and hungry than to go to the welfare lines. There is always fish and rabbits if I get to the point that I can not purchase meat for the table.
